Rope chair is a chair with rope armrests designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec in 2020 for the brand Artek. Powder matt coated steel frame available in black or light grey finish, seat in form-pressed beech plywood with a surface finish in either black or light grey lacquered ash veneer. Rope armrests available in black polyester or natural flax. Rope is a chair by Artek is the artistic mix and match of industrial production with its modern techniques and free artistic production. The rounded frame of this chair resembles a human silhouette, shaped in three dimensions out of an artistic linear drawing. The key expression of Rope's design is contrast: the solidity of the structure and flexibility of the armrests. The rope armrests and backrest adapt to those who will seat on the chair, whatever position they will choose, giving to the chair an unexpected comfort and plasticity. With the traces of the sitter body left on the rope elements, the artistic design of this new Artek chair is co-defined by the user and the designers: a new bridge between artist and public is build.
